I’m sorry officer,…I didn’t know I,…couldn’t do that…
This gem comes to us from Argentina, where it looks like a substitute was a little too eager to get involved on the pitch. By the look of his teammates’ reactions, you get the feeling this wasn’t the first time either.
Different commentators from around the world react to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goal from Wednesday night. It was truly one of the most remarkable things I’ve ever seen on a football pitch. My eyes watered up listening to the last commentator call the play. It truly is why it’s called the Beautiful game.
He is Zlatan. Simply.

Even Zlatan must be impressed by Zlatan here.
You’d think after scoring a hat-trick the Swede superstar would let up during stoppage time. Nope. Just your casual 20+ yard bicycle kick to set an exclamation point on a fantastic performance. Stunning.
Fast is more than just a footballing attribute. Introducing the latest adiZero f50 boots!
Congratulations are in order for Barcelona’s striker Lionel Messi and girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo, after welcoming their baby boy Thiago.
Barca excused the 25-year-old Argentina forward from practice on Friday to attend his son’s birth at a hospital in Barcelona.
Earlier in the week, Messi’s new bundle of joy was presented with a pair of golden boots to accompany the set his father earned last season in La Liga:
Messi vs Ronaldo…is there a Part Deux in the works?
From the “you couldn’t make this stuff up” department, Lionel Messi’s birth of his son Thiago today fell 869 days after Cristiano Jr. was introduced to the world.
So what?
Lionel Messi was born exactly 869 days after, you guessed it, CR7 was born.
We’re just saying…
Real Salt Lake visits Seattle Sounders Friday to kick off the semifinal round. Here are five points to watch ahead of the first leg at CenturyLink Field:
1. Will Eddie Johnson play?: Johnson suffered a left adductor strain in the 1-0 defeat at Los Angeles on Sunday night. Seattle coach Sigi Schmid hasn’t ruled him out of this match, but he probably won’t feature from the start. If Johnson isn’t in the lineup, then Seattle loses its most direct option up front and turns into a side that must operate more intricately in the final third to score goals.
2. If Johnson can’t play, then how will Schmid replace him?: The veteran boss isn’t short of options. Sammy Ochoa offers the physical presence (if not the speed) Johnson usually provides. David Estrada and Steve Zakuani present options to stretch the Real Salt Lake back four. Mauro Rosales supplies ingenuity if he slides up from his usual spot on the right side of midfield. All four players represent viable choices to fill the void. It is up to Schmid to figure out how to best use the pieces available to him.
3. Fullbacks versus wingers: The key tactical matchup likely involves Seattle’s wide players against RSL’s fullbacks. RSL boss Jason Kreis asks a lot of Tony Beltran and Chris Wingert. They usually assume much of the defensive responsibility against the wide players with RSL’s narrow diamond midfield (admittedly, Will Johnson scurries about to provide additional support). The fullback duo must get their positioning and their spacing right to keep Seattle from moving quickly through midfield and piling on the pressure.
Neymar. 200. Scoring, Smiling, Scintillating.
Neymar just played his 200th match for Santos against Atletico Minero. He’s still only 20 years old. While reputations can crush some young players, Neymar has only thrived under Pelé’s blessing, scoring yet another
absurdtrademark goal. (He also pulled this off in the presence of Ronaldinho.) The lush European fields are awaiting the Brazilian phenom, but for now the young man is simply enjoying the moment. Although some purists may not be impressed with the drama Neymar brings to the game, no one can deny that he’s the epitome of an entertainer. And are you not entertained? [posted by EB]
